Yes, what everyone has been waiting for has now been fully planned and we are opening up registration for our spring trip as of now. The CUKC spring trip will be taking place on Thursday, April 22, 2010 which is just at the end of exams, so it should not interfere with any exams. The trip will be up to the Ottawa River which is about and hour and a half north. (map available below)

The trip will have white-water rafting and instructed white-water kayaking.

There are some restrictions though, since we will be in spring high waters: if you do not have a roll or have never been in a kayak before you can only register for white-water rafting. If you have a 100% roll on flat water (in the pool) and have the confidence in taking on the rapids then you can register for a white-water kayaking lesson to take you down the river.

We will have a licensed instructor (mostly likely Billy Harris) to take people down the rapids under his instruction as well as a bunch of CUKC exec and instructors acting as safety boaters. There will be a maximum of 5 people who can register to white-water kayak and CUKC will be providing all of the gear to do so. Otherwise, anyone else can register for white-water rafting, but register soon, because there are limited spots available as well.

The costs will be $85 for white-water rafting and $70 for instructed white-water kayaking (includes gear). These prices includes all equipment rentals, transportation to and from the river, and dinner.

All that you have to bring is warm clothing and swimming attire, and some snacks. We will be departing from Carleton University at approximately 8am on April 22 and returning later in the evening at around 8pm on the same day. If you are interested please register by emailing events@cukc.ca telling them which package you will be purchasing. If you have any questions please feel free to email events@cukc.ca. The deadline for registration and payment (preferably by cheque or cash) will be April 1st, 2010.

Also, if you have previous white-water experience you are welcome to come and you do not have to purchase a package, but will have to pay $10 for food and let us know ahead of time so we can organize car pooling.
