Community Outreach

CUKC’s commitment to the sport of whitewater kayaking goes far beyond bringing in students from the university into the sport. CUKC supports programs and efforts around the community to help improve the sport; the environment; and people’s well being. CUKC has grown to become more and more involved with community efforts to help introduce its members into the community better, to draw more people from the community to the club to help with the efforts; and to show our support for these undertakings.

A major undertaking that CUKC has became involved with is the “Save the Petawawa Cause” which is an effort to help prevent the damming of the Petawawa River. More info can be found under the “River Conservation Tab“. Furthermore, CUKC supports organisations such as First Descents whose main focus is to help people battling cancer through whitewater kayaking.

CUKC also takes part in the kayak community by part taking in many community run events. Such events include: Level Six Capital Cup held in the spring; Hell or High Water held in the early spring; King of the Clubs held in the late summer; the outdoors show in early summer; the Banff Film Festival; and many more small events throughout the year. Many of the events we can attend can be seen on our map under the “Ottawa Playspots” tab.

CUKC has grown immensely over its lifespan and we continue to grow further improve the club and our goals. However, we could not have as much success as we do without the help from our affiliates whom we work with to further expand the club.
