CUKC Executive

Here are your CUKC executives for this year. They are a great bunch of people who are here to serve you, the members, and to help get you out onto the river. All are very approachable and are part of the executive due to their shared passion for the sport, as well as their commitment to help others share that passion. They hope to meet all of your expectations, and should you have any concerns do not hesitate to email any one of them with your questions.

As president it is my responsibility to ensure the club runs efficiently and accomplishes all of its goals. My main responsibility is making sure all the pieces of the puzzle come together, such as updating our website, organising events, or running our pool sessions. This requires picking up all the small administrative tasks such as collecting boats from rental locations, participating in CUSA workshops, or attending budget meetings and storing club-owned equipment. I am also responsible for keeping the club organized by arranging and leading meetings and keeping in communication with all executives and members of the club. The role of President is a lot of work and a huge time commitment but it is definitely worth every second I put towards the club. I am very happy to play such a significant role in the club.

I became part of CUKC because my passion lies with white water kayaking, and when I saw that Carleton had a kayak club I jumped on the boat as soon as possible (no pun intended). My goal is to help continually expand our club and welcome as many new members as possible. We are a fairly new club, and there are still many kinks to work out and improvements to be made. I am eager to involve new people with the sport and push the club to serve its members. This year my main goal has been to have more events outside of the pool sessions and increase the amount of gear owned by the club. This will allow us to take more paddlers to the river for as little cost as possible to the members.

As President I hope to bring a positive influence to the club. My goal is to make CUKC the most exciting club on campus because that is what white water kayaking is all about—‘the rush’!

VP Events – Juraj Kobzik

Major: Geography
# Years Paddling: 4 years
I’m the Vice President at CUKC, and my responsibilities are the events that the club organises. I organize and make sure everything runs smoothly at the events. For the majority of the year my main responsibilities are the pool sessions, which I set up and make sure all registered members are booked. Also, whenever anything else happens I am responsible for the organization of that too.

I’ve been paddling for a little more than a year, although, I’ve known and have been loosely involved with the whole paddling spiel for a couple years now.

I also enjoy: long walks on the beach, holding hands, frozen yogurt, sunsets, and all kinds of awesome.

VP Finance – Antoni Pashartis

Email: antoni@cukc.ca
Major: Aerospace Engineering
As Vice-President of Finance, my responsibility at CUKC is to ensure the organization has enough money to guarantee its smooth operations. My main responsibility is ensuring the best financial decisions are made for pool session costs and also for purchasing boats. Essentially, when there is money involved, I am the “Go-to Guy”. Without the VP Finance signature, nothing would get approved.

I am also responsible for organizing the budget to present at Budget Meetings to receive CUSA FACCS Funding for CUKC. In addition, I manage the amount of boats that we can purchase each year and also the funds for trips such as the Fall Trip in October.

I joined CUKC last year after being offered the VP Finance position by the current President Mathew Tasson. It is an exciting club to be a part of and you always meet someone new! You will often see me more dressed up and signing everyone in, as opposed to jumping in the water.

I am very happy to be working alongside fellow executive members to bring you the most exciting experiences from a club while being a Raven!

VP Communication – Kayla Callaghan

Email: kayla@cukc.ca
# Years Paddling: 3 years
Major: Journalism
I am VP Communications at CUKC and it is my responsibility to teach lessons, to write the monthly updates for the CUKC web page, and to communicate with CUSA for advertisement purposes. I’m responsible for promoting the kayak club at Carleton and within Ottawa. I got into kayaking my first year at Carleton through CUKC, (yes I was born and raised at CUKC) and since then have been in love with the sport. I’m still pretty new to whitewater but bailing hard is all part of the fun. Hope to see you all out on the water.

Director of Operations – Amy Robichaud

Email: amy@cukc.ca
Major: Communication Studies
# Years Paddling: 2 years
My responsibilities as CUKC’s Director of Operations are to organize equipment and make sure things run smoothly at pool sessions by helping members find the proper equipment at pool sessions. I am also responsible for recruiting new members to join the club. I started kayaking about a year ago and already love the sport. It is one of the most fun and rewarding sports I’ve ever tried. The Carleton University Kayak Club made it very easy to become involved in the sport with great people instructing and helping you learn.
