Pool sessions hosted by the Carleton University Kayak Club are a great way to satisfy the kayaking itch all the way through the winter months. Whether you’re just starting out, nailing down your roll, or perfecting the next big trick the pool is the place to be. By eliminating the factor of river environment and paddling in a warm, safe pool with the support of on-duty lifeguards and our eager-to-help club executives and instructors you can focus all your attention on honing your skills – at any level! It’s also a fantastic setting to connect with the kayakers from Carleton University and Ottawa area that you will more than likely spend the next season on the river with.
CUKC Pool Sessions are open to anyone, with priority given to Carleton University students. Run nearly every Saturday at the Carleton University pool (Athletics centre) through the school year starting late October (excluding holidays), each 1.5 hour session costs a mere $10, with package deals open to Carleton University students. Full locker rooms are available for use, there is also a loading door if you bring your own gear, and parking is free!.Lessons are offered at each pool session, lasting for 45 minutes and covering a wide range of skill levels. If this is your first time in a kayak we ask that you take our introductory lesson, which gets you in a kayak and comfortable with the basics. We also offer rolling lessons, and introduction to playboating maneuvres. Lessons cost $5 for Carleton University students, and $10 for non-students, and are run by experienced paddlers within the CUKC membership. We try and aim for a 3-1 instructor ratio for the lessons so you can get the most out of your lesson!
Don’t have your own gear? No problem! We have a selection of boats, skirts, and paddles available to Carleton University students, all you have to do is ask! We are pleased to offer this to Carleton students free of charge.Want to learn more? Check out our events page to find out when the next one is happening, or take a look at pool session FAQ.
